Lisa Gelobter

Lisa Gelobter (1971 - ) is a computer scientist, technologist and chief executive. She is the Chief Digital Service Officer for the United States Department of Education. Gelobter is the first African American woman to develop several internet technologies, including Shockwave Flash, Animated GIFs, Brightcove, Joost and The Feedroom.


Lisa Gelobter (1971 - ) is a computer scientist, technologist and chief executive. She is the Chief Digital Service Officer for the United States Department of Education. Gelobter studied at Brown University, graduating with a degree in a computer science with a concentration in artificial intelligence and machine learning in 1991. Gelobter is the first African American woman to develop several internet technologies, including Shockwave Flash, Animated GIFs, Brightcove, Joost and The Feedroom. Gelobter was a member of senior management for the launch of Hulu. Gelobter served as Vice President of the Black Entertainment Television networks (BET). She plays a major role in the publications of online videos. Lisa has been working in the digital space for over 20 years, combining strategy, operations and technology.


Gelobter is a founder and CEO of tEQuitable, “a 3rd-party, tech-enabled Ombuds platform; a confidential sounding board for employees to address issues of bias, discrimination and harassment, and for companies to make workplaces more inclusive.” She served as Chief Digital Service Officer for the United States Department of Education during the Presidency of Barack Obama. She led the team that built the United States Department of Education College Scorecard, which helped college students make sensible choices about college investments. She joined the advisory board of Bridge Foundry. In 2015 she was selected by Minority Media & Telecom Council as Geek of the Week. In 2016 Gelobter founded tEquitable, an independent, confidential platform to address issues of bias, discrimination and harassment in the workplace. She raised more than $2 million for the platform.
